David Smart’s story starts out as a familiar one for many expats arriving in France with ambitions to further their careers. Things that were welcomed in English speaking cultures were misunderstood or undervalued; a gap year spent travelling, a change of profession, even graduating early! But from there on, his story is like no other. Qualifying at a particularly young age as an horse veterinary surgeon he decided to take time out to travel and work abroad finally settling down in France. His willingness to venture into other activities to the one he had trained for may have been considered foolish but he persevered and finally offered his communication talents and scientific methodology to a new business in the Biomerieux portfolio devoted to industriel microbiological control.
The business that David now manages provides tests for bacteria that are accurate, easy to implement and provide very rapid results to brewers and wine producers thus ensuring products that are safe to drink using the PCR system that we all now familiar with! You can see more about his work in the attached presentation.
