While I thoroughly enjoyed many events this year, the Christmas lunch in 2019 gave me the most pleasure. When starting the role of President in March 2016, I had mentioned the importance of a team to continue or even enhance the great work of my predecessors. The committee team made the whole event – Rachel, Zoe and Michael managed the Christmas quiz superbly, ensuring that our quiz maestro, Ed Hazlewood, recently transferred to Nantes, wasn’t missed (at least not on the quiz front!)…James, ably abetted by Shelley had sourced all the Christmas goodies (crackers, chocolates from the UK in a Black Friday Bonanza), Michael added some superb prizes and everyone else participated in the last minute selling of tickets for the tombola, so it was a great success. Fifty-six for lunch, a sea of terrible Christmas jumpers, twinkly hats, even the Grinch was there, slippers and all: a really lovely end to a busy year for FIBA with much to look forward to in 2020!
